2nd Grade Watercolor and Texture Triptych
For this project students used leaf templates I had per-printed to trace and cut 4 different kinds of leaves. They used the wet on wet method to paint the leaves using whatever colors they liked. After the leaves dried they used a Sharpie to draw either pinnate or palmate vein patterns, which was something they initially learned in their science class. For the backgrounds I had them use unwrapped crayons to to create texture rubbings from a variety of different plates I ordered last year. They painted the rubbings one color, using the wt on dry method and created a watercolor resist. Lastly, they chose a color background they wanted, assembled their leaves and backgrounds in a way they liked and added the fourth leaf as a name tag in the corner. Viola, leaf triptychs :)
